Optimal use of water and soil resources, especially in the lands along the border rivers, is one of the important executive policies of the country.
The Atrak is one of the northern border rivers of the country located on the border of Iran and Turkmenistan, which is known as a deprived area. There is enough water flowing through the Atrak River. However, the exploitation of this river is associated with many problems due to its condition such as being flooded, shore destruction, route change, etc. Therefore, it is necessary to implement a comprehensive plan in areas prone to the construction of pumping stations, sub-canals, diversion seal distribution valves, etc. this being the case, river water would be consumed according to a specific schedule through canals which leads water to lakes located along the route or sealing. Implementing the mentioned plan, the destructive power of the river will become a factor for construction. Therefore, the officials of Golestan province have been trying to use the rich water resources of this river to develop the cultivated area, and achieve economic growth through the development of agricultural products. On the other hand, by providing more appropriate and better facilities, they can improve living conditions and prevent the migration of exploiters and residents.
Geographical location:
The study area is located in the Atrak catchment area, northeast of Iran. It also bounded to North Khorasan from the east, to the Republic of Turkmenistan from the north, to the Caspian Sea from the west, and to Gorganrood catchment from the south.

Preventing the migration of villagers to cities
Saving water in the agricultural sector and increasing the irrigation efficiency
Improving environmental quality
Reducing the risk of floods and similar destructive phenomena (due to the control of surface water flows and floods)
